Setting Up Outlook & Microsoft 365 with Kanmail

Kanmail connects to Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, and Microsoft 365 / Office 365 accounts using secure OAuth sign-in.

Like Google, Microsoft accounts use OAuth 2.0, so Kanmail never sees or stores your password.

  1. In Kanmail, add a new account and choose Sign in with Microsoft.
  2. Your browser opens Microsoft’s official sign-in page. Sign in.
  3. Review and approve the requested permissions. Kanmail receives a limited-scope access token for email only.
  4. You’re returned to Kanmail and your Outlook mail loads.

The token is stored in your operating system’s secure credential store.

Work or school accounts

If your account is managed by an organisation (Microsoft 365 for business/education), your IT administrator may need to approve third-party apps before you can connect. If sign-in is blocked, contact your admin, or ask them to permit Kanmail’s access.

Turning folders into columns

Outlook uses traditional folders (one message lives in one folder). After connecting, choose which folders appear as columns on your board. Drag an email from one column to another to move it between folders. See Boards & Columns.

Multiple accounts on one board

You can add your Microsoft account alongside Gmail, iCloud, and IMAP accounts. Kanmail shows them together on one board, each with its own colour accent, and sends each reply from the correct address automatically.
